beach housemaroubra. nsw. australia
the brief was to renovate a 3 bedroom 1950's brown brick property, transforming it as a 5 bedroom + office contemporary beach house. the entire top level bedroom block seemingly elevates above the existing volume, producing a sliver of operable glazing above the entry and living areas, providing cross ventilation with the summer north-easterlies. a living green roof on the rear of the original building is to be populated with beach grasses to give a more organic textural feel to the upper level. both street (eastern) and rear (western) facade include gradient louvred walls that reference the coloured hues reflected over the ocean during the sunrise and sunset . the main feature of the house will be a curved stairwell which bends the upper circulation to produce a high connectivity to the first floor.
