minimal tension terrace canopy

we have completed the development application for a canopy sited on a constrained apartment terrace in sydney’s cbd. the terrace is located on  the second floor of a residential tower and receives the brunt of debris that falls from the neighbour’s balconies above.  this makes the terrace is quite unsafe for the client and their three young children to use. our aim is to build a canopy that can funnel this rubbish into safe containers and still create a great space for entertaining and play for the kids.

folding: gary cai & marinel dator

the studio research focused on the process of folding and a potential to deliver an alternative method of generating and controlling spatial syntax.  precedent studies of folding techniques used within design projects illuminated an emphasis on surface decoration, therefore the question arose of how folding could be more meaningful in generating an architectural proposition.

usyd+ufo studio: programmatic + circulatory bundling

bundling: katrina passer & kirk macdonnell

the project focused on the potential use of bundling as a programmatic and circulatory design tool as part of their research to develop a new entertainment quarter in sydney. their initial studies focused on understanding the various properties of bundling which began with simple 2d diagramming and progressed to scripting and working with 3d physics programs.
